Right so I've finally made that decision.
Just need some tips to help me for when I need one, especially whilst I'm in work.
Any help?
Im doing it cold turkey as I have done research and this is the best way

Instead of walking outside for a fag break, just have a walk around the office. That's the best tip I got!

i tried for ages to give up, and kept giving in.. this is only the way i did it and might not work for everyone but everyweek i used to pick a day when i say i am going to stop, normally a monday as your not going out up town or out for a drink
some weeks i went a few days sometimes a week or two, but i kept trying and took quite a while but then one time i went over a month and have not had a cig now for about 9 yrs
i smoked for about 6 yrs so was tough giving up, just keep trying if you do give in, i also found keep a pack of gum or something as a replacement when you want one

There is only two things you need to do to stop smoking, they are quite easy as I like millions of others found out, they are.........
A) Want to stop smoking.
B) Stop smoking.
Dont try B) unless you can fulfil A). The rest is all up to you.

Never have one to remind yourself what the taste was like. As with alcoholics where "just one drink" makes them start drinking all over again, the same applies with smoking. If you want to give up show the mental strength to do it.
Tip...walk away from anyone smoking.
I haven't smoked in 28 years but still (just occasionally) crave for one (particularly after food) and even dream about smoking, getting the taste in my mouth, from time to time.
It's hard going but the benefits far outway the pleasure you ever got from it.

Peer pressure is the next thing - don't accept a fag off a mate or someone at work.
It's easier these days, as you can't smoke in pubs and restaurants, and you're basically treated like a social pariah anyway. Beside £6+ for a pack
After a few attempts I finally knocked it on the head not long after having our first. I felt guilty and knew I had to stop as I was now responsible for this little boy.
I always enjoyed distance running and other physical activities, so why I started smoking, I don't know. I think it's because I'm a creature of habit who gets bored easily.
Back in the 90s, I worked at the Environment Agency down in London, proper old skool left-wing civil servant territory, but they used to have a smokers room, even though one woman used to smoke in her own office! It was ridiculous. If you looked through the windows, you could make out some people in this smoky haze.
Ultimately, smoking kills you. One of the dads at my lads footy smokes, and told me his Dad only has a couple of weeks to live, due to cancer. If that don't make you stop, nothing will.
Anyway - be strong - and put all of your fag money in a pot.

i packed in 2 years ago using champix tablets. Within 10 days i was smoke free and havent looked back since, i still get the odd craving now and again but it passes as quick as it comes.
My advice is to try and avoid the areas where you used to go for a fag, try to change your routines if you can

Keep it up for another three years and that's the time to say that you kicked the habit.
Sorry to be a killjoy but well done so far.

My neighbour says that chewing gum is helping him kick the habit. He's given up for about two years so far but still craves for a fag now and again when he passes someone smoking in the street.

gum does help for the first few months in my opinion something just to replace the habit.... but when your around people who smoke, it's always difficult
like i said i ain't had a cig in 9 years but just the other week i went fishing and whilst driving on the way back my cousin who smoke's like a trooper decided to have one after another... i would normally wind the window down but it was fooking freezing and once he'd sparked his 2nd up i thought fook it i am staying warm
within a minute i was quite happily enjoying the aroma but then the window went back down... i rather freeze than go back to smoking :
i have had people say to me don't smoke its bad for you it's fooking crap mess your health up , only last week one such person was sitting outside my local club in the fooking cold back to his old habits he must have quit for a long time before..
doing well though supernoodle keep it up.... go for a run or do some exercise will also help

I went cold turkey for last new years resolution.
Did 8 months then started having a fag when I was going on nights out.
That turned into a few fags at the pub.
Now I am smoking 4-5 fags a day.
I am definately going to quit again for this new years resolution, and not smoke when I go on nights out. I thought I could handle it but they crept back in slowly

Get yourself down WHSMITHS and avail yourself of a copy of Allen Carr's easy way to give up smoking! I smoked for 25 years 50 a day! Never thought I'd do it. That was 6 years ago! From day 1 you will be able to socialise with smokers and drink alcohol without getting the ungamely "urge". Forget nicotine replacements, forget them forever! You wouldn't ween a heroin addict off heroin using heroin would you? Good luck (you won't need it)

Best, in fact, the only advice i received from a alcoholic mate. when i was on about 80 a day when in the navy and they were free.... ..."NEVER" admit[tell] to the "brain" that you have stopped smoking, just tell yourself [it] that you have delayed the first one till ??? to another time ie..after getting up, after breakfast, till you get to work, after morning tea etc....seemed to work for me, been about 40yrs now NEVER a puff...hope it helps Cob it will be well worth it. Worst[best] part for me was after about 3 months when black type tar [phlegm] started to appear in all my throat clearances ...good luck.

I thought Marky with his 50 a day habit was rediculous, but 80 fags a day?! Fuck me, I'm surprised you had time to breath. Were you smoking in your sleep?

Well, I am getting around to it now. Been smoking 20 a day for 14 years, with 2 years off in sporadic spells.. its finally feeling like its catching up with me a bit.
Got to give up, got to give up, got top give up.
Do people find its best to set a date, or just drop it in that moment when it disgusts you most?

WORTH it though.

You'll get a bit of ongoing support and any patches/other nicotine replacement for free.... Its the psychological addiction thats the hard bit though....
